Clippers star Blake Griffin will be honored by the Los Angeles Sports Council next month as the 2015 Sportsman of the Year, the council announced Tuesday.
According to the council, Griffin was chosen in recognition of his selection as an NBA All-Star and his dominating play during the Clippers’ first- round, seven-game playoff victory over the San Antonio Spurs. Griffin averaged 24 points and 13 rebounds per game during the series, according to the council.
Griffin will be honored at the 11th annual LA Sports Awards, which will be held Feb. 25 at the Beverly Hilton.
Presentations will also be made to the Sportswoman, Coach and Sports Executive of the year.
Griffin is the third Clippers player to receive the award, following Chris Paul in 2013 and Elton Brand in 2006.
Previous recipients of the award include Clayton Kershaw, Mike Trout, Jonathan Quick, Paul Gasol, Derek Fisher, Kobe Bryant, David Beckham and Matt Leinart.
