Marcus Boyd is probably the only soul in Century City to hold two different jobs in both the financial and entertainment industry, at the same time. For this, he works every day of the week, but you’ll never hear a word of complaint or fatigue. That’s because it’s not work to Boyd – it’s happiness and fulfillment.

Boyd is the new Chairman of the Century City Chamber of Commerce, and he’s dead set on transforming the business community of the business capital of Los Angeles. Born and raised in Southern California, he has a strong sense of civic engagement and professional dedication. Read on to see why Boyd is the man you want to know in Century City.

Tell me a little about what you do in Century City?

I am a Relationship Manager engaging in the sales process of deepening new clients and managing an existing portfolio. As a member of the Directors Guild of America I work on various studio shows from the Fox Lot on Pico.

In 1999 I began my dual career in banking and television. I began as a teller at Bank of America and lasted only three months before I was “pushed” into a promotion. I was a terrible teller. At the same time I began my TV life by scoring NFL games for the NFL on FOX studio show.

Having two careers and working seven days a week has been an enjoyable challenge. As I love to tell people about myself, I am not a very intelligent guy but I will work harder than anyone you know. Work ethic is very important to me and pride myself in giving 100 percent to my employer. I really do enjoy working, which makes for a happy life.

As Chairman of the Century City Chamber of Commerce my goal is to increase participation and grow membership. I will take an aggressive approach in obtaining new members and through my Marketing Membership council we will jointly target new businesses in the area. If you are a new business and reading this article, I am coming for you and have that checkbook ready.

What motivated you to get into the role?

I work under a corporate umbrella in a midsized bank with layers of management, and I joined the Chamber to hone my leadership skills and be a part of the decision making process.

Where did it all begin for you career-wise?

I was with Bank of America for 13 years and they were very good to me. The move to City National Bank has been an incredible experience.

What do you love about Century City?

My favorite aspect of Century City is the energy with young professionals in finance and entertainment. I had to add a lot of color to my sock drawer.

If you could add one thing to the area what would it be and why?

We need to bring back a post office to 90067. Plus, the subway line will be a huge addition.

What do you do in your spare time?

What spare time?! After my five days a week at the bank I work a full weekend at Fox Sports. When I do have some down time, nothing stops me from watching baseball with my 2.5 year old daughter and my six month old son.

What is one cool thing that you want to do this year?

Travel is scarce with my children being so young but we are looking forward to working Super Bowl 51 in Houston in 2016 and World Cup in Russia in 2018. I have worked on location at four Super Bowls and seven NFC Championships games.

Where was your last vacation?

With my newborn son, we aren’t scheduled to be on an airplane this year. My wife and I travel to Ojai every December for some relaxation. This past December was my son’s first trip.

Where do you wish your last vacation was?

Tokyo is by far my favorite vacation I have ever been on. I would go back anytime and plan on taking my children there in a few years.

What is your most marked characteristic?

I am tall (and bald) but feel my personality can command a room. I embrace public speaking and will not shy away from a difficult conversation. My clients appreciate that.
