Winners of the 2016 MTV Movie Awards are celebrating with Golden Popcorn at last night’s after parties.
The award ceremony, with hosts Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart, took place Saturday evening on the Warner Bros. backlot. Fans will have to wait until tonight to see all the revelry and red carpet looks, which will be broadcast at 8pm on MTV, but here’s the spoiler on who garnered top honors.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” pulled in multiple awards, including being named Movie of the Year; Best Breakthrough Performance went to its heroine, played by Daisy Ridley; and Adam Driver was named Best Villain for his now infamous portrayal of Kylo Ren. A smooch between Rebel Wilson and Adam DeVine in “Pitch Perfect 2” garnered the film a Best Kiss award, in addition to “Pitch Perfect 2” winning in the Ensemble Cast category. Ryan Reynolds, for his work in the superhero flick “Deadpool,” won a Best Comedic Performance award. Reynolds and “Deadpool” also beat out the competition in the Best Fight category for the character Deadpool’s battle against the film’s villain, Ajax.
Charlize Theron, for her starring role as Furiosas in”Mad Max: Fury Road,” was named the winner in the Best Female Performance category.
For his dramatic role in “The Revenant,” superstar Leonardo DiCaprio earned the Best Male Performance award.
Actor Chris Pratt, who played the role of a raptor tamer hero in “Jurassic World,” earned himself a Best Action Performance.
Jennifer Lawrence, for her part as the leading lady in “Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2,” was named Best Hero.
Comedienne Amy Poehler, who lent her voice to the animated film “Inside Out,” was the top choice in the Best Virtual Performance category.
The film “Straight Outta Compton” won in the True Story category.
Best Documentary went to the film “Amy.”
Special recognition was given to actress Melissa McCarthy, honored with the Comedic Genius Award, and actor Will Smith, who was presented with the Generation Award.
