Hip hop/R&B artist Ty Dolla Sign was sued Wednesday for more than $1 million by his former managers, who contend he broke off their agreement in February while still owing commissions.
KWL Management LLC filed the breach-of-contract suit in Los Angeles Superior Court against the 30-year-old singer, whose real name is Tyrone Griffin Jr.; Dolla Sign World Touring Inc.; and Dolla Sign World.
A representative for the singer could not be immediately reached for comment.
The suit says the parties signed a contract in March 2013 for the company to provide management services for the entertainer worldwide. The initial term was for three years, but it was later extended to March 2018, according to the complaint.
KWL advised the artist on publishing deals, produced some of his music, oversaw public relations and arranged merchandising deals, according to the suit, which alleges KWL was entitled to 10 percent of the singer’s earnings.
The company sought the commissions allegedly owed, but he refused to pay and also failed to provide written accounting statements demanded by KWL, the suit states.
On Feb. 12, the singer told KWL he was ending their contract despite not having paid the outstanding monies, the suit alleges.
