The search for a missing 45-year-old diver near the Hyperion Sewage Plant north of Manhattan Beach resumed Monday, authorities said.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Los Angeles County lifeguards were involved in the search. The Coast Guard was notified at 10 a.m. Sunday by a friend of the missing diver, identified as Jeff Tolly, that he went missing three miles north of the pier, according to Petty Officer 1st Class Sondra Kay Kneen.
The Coast Guard then sent a helicopter from Point Mugu and a small boat to the area to begin the search for Tolly. He was last seen wearing a black diving suit, black fins and a black scuba tank. L.A. County fire also sent at least one helicopter and lifeguards to join in the operation.
The search was suspended overnight but resumed after daybreak Monday and included an air search.
