A man in his 20s died after being ejected from a car that veered off the San Diego (405) Freeway, and at least five other people were injured following a two-vehicle crash this morning in the Westchester area, according to authorities.
The collision took place on the southbound 405 Freeway near La Tijera Boulevard at 2:10 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said.
One of the vehicles veered off the freeway and ended up near Howard Hughes Parkway, according to fire department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart and a news photographer at the scene.
The victim was ejected from that car and pronounced dead at the scene, Stewart said. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Three other people in the car — two women aged 26 and 25 and a 25-year- old man — were all transported to a hospital in fair condition, Stewart added. Two other people, believed to be from the second car, were treated at the scene but declined transport to a hospital.
The crash shut down all southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway at Jefferson Boulevard, Villalobos said. A SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 2:45 a.m. The southbound lanes remained closed until the SigAlert was ended at 7:13 a.m.
