Six people were arrested at Friday’s Rose Bowl Game, including four for suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, police said.
There were also one arrest each for suspicion of misdemeanor assault and battery and trespassing, Pasadena Police Department Lt. Art Chute told City News Service.
“When you consider we had (94,268 fans) at this Rose Bowl Game, to have only six arrests is a very successful night for us,” Chute said following Stanford’s 45-16 victory over Iowa.
“Both teams that came today, their fans were good fans and they didn’t engage in nefarious behavior.”
Chute said the lower level of tailgating for the Rose Bowl Game is one reason for its lower amount of arrests.
Other factors prompting fans to avoid engaging in “nefarious behavior” include the high cost of hotel accommodations, air fare and tickets and that the game is played at a “festive time,” Chute said.
Police made 16 arrests following the 2015 Rose Bowl Game — 11 for suspicion of being drunk in public, four for suspicion of violating Pasadena’s Municipal Code by running onto the field following Oregon’s 59-20 victory over Florida State in a College Football Playoff semifinal game and one for suspicion of battery, Chute said after that game.
