Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Ralph Terrazas will throw the first pitch before tonight’s Los Angeles Dodgers game at Dodger Stadium in connection with the team’s inaugural Firefighter Appreciation Night.
A portion of the proceeds from a discounted ticket package will be donated to the California Fire Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting the families of fallen firefighters.
UCLA men’s basketball coach Steve Alford will throw the ceremonial first pitch before the game against the San Diego Padres.
Kenny Landreaux, an outfielder on the Dodgers’ 1981 World Series championship team, will sign autographs in the right field pavilion plaza from 5-7 p.m., the same time Lee Lacy, a Dodger second baseman and outfielder from 1972-78, will be signing autographs in the left field pavilion plaza.
U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ricardo Flemate of Whittier will be honored as the Veteran of the Game. Flemate enlisted in 2005 and is an infantry squad leader, responsible for his teams’ readiness, health, welfare and morale.
Flemate returned in July from his second yearlong deployment to Afghanistan, a combat tour in Logar Province. He was deployed to Korengal Valley in 2008.
Flemate’s accolades include the a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained in combat and the Army Commendation Medal with Valor for saving the life of a fellow soldier involved in a firefight.
Dodger Stadium’s auto gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and its stadium gates at 5 p.m. for the 7:10 p.m. game.
