Utility crews worked throughout the day yesterday to keep power flowing for customers, but about 3,300 customers still had no electricity by late afternoon in various parts of Los Angeles.
Demand for power in the city of Los Angeles peaked today around 6,000 megawatts, shy of the records set Monday and Tuesday when electricity consumption peaked at 6,196 megawatts and 6,235 megawatts, respectively.
At 6 am yesterday, there were 1,497 customers without electricity in county areas served by Southern California Edison, including 137 in Beverly Hills. By 4:30 pm, SCE reported 1,611 customers without power.
In Los Angeles, where there had been only there 630 Department of Water and Power customers without electricity as of 6 am, the number jumped to 1,689 by 4:30 pm.
According to Jane Galbraith of the DWP, about 1,200 customers lost service along Whitnall Highway, a strip near the Burbank city limits where transmission lines are located. It was unclear when those problems would be fixed.
