Donating three days of volunteer work a year to help fellow Angelenos will make L.A. a much-better place, the mayor said Saturday.
Eric Garcetti kicked off his Mayor’s Volunteer Corps in front of a crowd of 200 volunteers, who then fanned out along Cesar Chavez Avenue on the Eastside to spruce it up, the mayor’s office announced.
“I truly believe that Los Angeles’ greatest resource is its people — the creative, passionate, and forward thinking individuals who turn away from the status quo and focus on what’s possible if we work together,” Garcetti said.
“Whether you are passionate about helping to end veteran’s homelessness or reducing dropouts, there’s a place for you in the Volunteer Corps.”
The mayor’s office has set up a website — lamayor.org/volunteer_corps — that lists five specialty corps and the types of help that people may share.
The specialties include workforce and economic aid, neighborhood investment, helping veterans, nurturing families and educating children.
