Shonda Rhimes to be honored at WGA Awards

The Writers Guild of America Awards will be presented Saturday, Feb. 14, in Century City at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

As part of the ceremony, television writer-producer Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal,” “How To Get Away With Murder”) will receive the Writers Guild of America, West’s 2015 Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement, honoring lifetime achievement in outstanding television writing.

The writers of “Boyhood,” “Foxcatcher,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Nightcrawler” and “Whiplash” are nominated for the Writers Guild of America Award for best original screenplay.

Nominations for best adapted screenplay went to the writers of “American Sniper,” “Gone Girl,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “The Imitation Game,” and “Wild.”

Documentary screenplay nominations went to “Finding Vivian Maier,” “The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz,” “Last Days in Vietnam” and “Red Army.”

Nominees for best drama series are “Game of Thrones,” “The Good Wife,” “House of Cards,” “Mad Men,” and “True Detective.”

Nominations for best comedy series are “Louie,” “Orange Is the New Black,” “Silicon Valley,” “ Transparent,” and “Veep.”

Nominees for best new series are “The Affair,” “The Knick,” “Silicon Valley,” “Transparent,” and “True Detective.”

Writers of the video games “Alien: Isolation,” “Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry,” “Assassin’s Creed: Unity” and “The Last of Us: Left Behind” are nominated for the Writers Guild of America Award for game writing.

This will be the eighth year the WGA has recognized writers of video games.

To be eligible, the games must have been released between Dec. 1, 2013, and Nov. 30, 2014.
