“The Jungle Book” may have been a classic animated feature, but Disney’s live-action remake is a blockbuster hit, as it was estimated to take in $60 million in sales this weekend.
“‘The Jungle Book’ continues to wow audiences across the board,” said movie industry analyst Paul Dergarabedian. “This film has enjoyed a perfect combination of great reviews, solid social media buzz and good old-fashioned word of mouth.”
The movie has grossed $191.5 million in the United States and Canada over 10 days. Add in sales around the world, and the movie has sold $528 million so far.
“Huntsman: Winter’s War” opened in second place, with $20.1 million in estimated sales.
“Barbershop: The Next Cut” was in third place, at $10.8 million in weekend sales. “Zootopia” was fourth, at $6.6 million, and “The Boss” was fifth, at $6 million.
