Arson investigators are urging the public to help
them identify a man suspected of badly burning a woman at a South Los Angeles
restaurant.
On surveillance video, the man can be seen walking into the restaurant
at 501 E. Vernon St. on the afternoon of June 12, where Los Angeles Fire
Department officials said he poured gasoline over a woman who worked there
before lighting her on fire.
The woman is now in a hospital fighting for her life, the LAFD said.
ABC7 identified the victim as Tabitha Morton, a mother of seven.
The suspect is described as a black man with brown eyes, brown hair,
standing 5-feet-7 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He goes by the nickname
“Boo Boo” and is known to frequent the area around the intersection of Vernon
Street and Avalon Boulevard, the LAFD said.
Anyone who sees the suspect is asked to call the Los Angeles Police
Department’s Newton Division at (323) 846-6547.
