Police today arrested three men who were allegedly involved in a fatal drive-by shooting, led authorities on a vehicle pursuit and then fled on foot into a neighborhood in South Los Angeles.
The shooting took place about 2:30 a.m. near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Normandie Avenue, said Officer Aareon Jefferson of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.
Demond Tristan Jones, 28, died at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. His home town was not known.
After the shooting, patrolling officers chased a vehicle to the 1100 block of West 47th Street, and the occupants got out and ran off. Two were quickly arrested and the third was taken into custody about 5 a.m. after he barricaded himself in a house, police said. Their names were not immediately released.
During the search, the LAPD declared a tactical alert, which means that officers can be held over beyond the end of their shifts. It was called off after the third arrest.
