Proposition HHH and Measure M Both Passed

Voters in yesterday’s General Election delivered big wins to two important ballot measures that were championed by Councilmember Mike Bonin – Proposition HHH, which will help end homelessness in Los Angeles, and Measure M, which will help reduce traffic.

Bonin, who serves on the City Council’s Homelessness and Poverty Committee, as well as the Metro Board of Directors, was central to the development of both ballot items and he campaigned aggressively for each measure’s approval, including launching a ballot measure committee named Los Angeles Forward dedicated to informing Westside voters about both measures.

“I am thankful for every single person who voted to end homelessness and reduce traffic,” said Bonin. “The investments voters made today will make our neighborhoods better for generations to come. Even more, the message voters sent yesterday is that they support the bold and forward-thinking solutions we are offering to these intractable problems, and that voters in LA soundly reject the politics of ‘no.’ In light of election results throughout the rest of the nation, I am thankful that LA proved itself an oasis of faith in smart and progressive solutions for our neighborhoods.

“Yesterday’s local results make me optimistic and excited about the future we can build for our city. Now it’s time to get started on moving Los Angeles forward,” Bonin added.

In addition to writing an opinion editorial for The Argonaut arguing in favor of each issue, Bonin spent the last few months meeting with local organizations to advocate for the approval of Proposition HHH and Measure M, and hosting events and rallies to encourage voters to support the two measures. Through Los Angeles Forward’s mail and social media program, he engaged Westside residents directly to inform them about the critical need to address homelessness and traffic, and how each initiative would help solve each problem.

“Ending homelessness and reducing traffic the two issues I hear most about from the neighbors I represent, and they are the issues I have focused on the most in my work on the City Council,” Bonin said. “The approval of these initiatives will help make real progress on solving these two problems, which will help keep our neighborhoods great places to live, work and enjoy.”
