Experienced Park Manager Appointed to Lead Malibu’s Parks & Recreation Department

The City has hired Jesse Bobbett, a leader with deep experience in managing park and recreation facilities and programs, as Director of the Malibu Parks and Recreation Department. Jesse starts his new role on Monday, November 21.

“I am very happy to welcome Jesse to the City of Malibu and look forward to seeing his innovative ideas, energy and leadership,” said Mayor Lou La Monte. “We are very proud of Malibu’s outstanding Parks and Recreation programs and activities, which have always benefited from a strong, positive relationship with the community. With Jesse on board, we can look forward to continuing that tradition of excellence.”

Jesse joins the City of Malibu with over 14 years of experience in the municipal parks and recreation management field. He has spent the past eight years with the City of El Segundo, most recently as Recreation Superintendent, where he oversaw Adult and Youth Sports, Older Adults, Cultural Arts, Transportation, Teen and Aquatics divisions.

While at the City of El Segundo, Jesse was instrumental in key projects, including the implementation of new and updated facility fees through the City’s Fee Analysis Task Force and as the City Liaison for the Los Angeles County Comprehensive Parks Needs Assessment. He also developed policies and procedures for facilities to increase reservation revenue and secured over $75,000 in sponsorship donations for department special events and programs.

He has a strong track record of positive community engagement. He prides himself on developing lasting working relationships with the public, fellow city employees and partner agencies while bringing strong leadership and a positive attitude to his work.

Originally from Kansas, Jesse holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports and Fitness Management from the University of Kansas. He brings a wealth of experience working in beach communities and has served on the California Parks and Recreation Society District 9 Board since 2014.

Jesse fills the position left vacant by the recent passing of longtime Parks and Recreation Director Bob Stallings.
