A man in his 30s was struck and killed by an 18- wheel big rig in downtown Los Angeles, authorities said Friday.
The crash was reported at 11:56 p.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of East Seventh Street, near Central Avenue, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The driver of the truck said he spotted the man walking west on Seventh Street on the south sidewalk as he approached Seventh from Merchant Street, according to Lt. Nate Williams of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Bureau.
The driver said he made a turn onto Seventh street and felt a bump at the rear of his truck as if he drove over something, Williams said.
The driver stopped and exited his truck and found the man had been run over. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Williams said.
The driver was cooperating with the investigation.
