Representative Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) has issued the following statement in light of the news that the Justice Department is appointing former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a special counsel to investigate Russia’s involvement in the 2016 presidential election. Last week, Mr. Lieu – along with Representatives Kathleen Rice and Stacey Plaskett – sent a letter to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein formally requesting the appointment of a Special Counsel. The Representatives – all former prosecutors – believed Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations compelled Mr. Rosenstein to appoint a Special Counsel.
“Today is a good day for American Democracy. Thank you Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein for following the law.”
