Century City Law Firm Launches Memorial Scholarship Fund

Real estate law firm Cox, Castle & Nicholson has donated $500,00 to the USC Gould School of Law for the Phillip R. Nicholson Memorial Scholarship fund.

Century City real estate law firm Cox, Castle & Nicholson LLP officially introduced the Phillip R. Nicholson Memorial Scholarship for Real Estate Excellence at the University of Southern California (USC) Gould School of Law at the end of 2017.

It is the largest named scholarship established by a law firm to the USC Gould School of Law, and was named in honor of the firm’s founding partner who passed away in 2015.

“Through our broad-based community efforts and professional support initiatives at local universities and bar associations, the attorneys at Cox Castle have always had a strong belief in the importance of supporting aspiring attorneys in our communities,” said Mario Camara, senior partner on Cox, Castle & Nicholson’s management committee. “This scholarship fund builds on this legacy while honoring our beloved founder Phil Nicholson.”

Dean of USC Gould School of Law, Andrew T. Guzman said, “Phil Nicholson exemplified the leadership, professionalism and passion we are confident our law students will possess. We are deeply appreciative to Cox, Castle & Nicholson for their meaningful vision to establish this extraordinary scholarship.”

The merit-based scholarship will provide support to students with an interest in real estate law and will award annual scholarships to current, full-time law students in their second and third years. The inaugural recipients, both of whom are members of the class of 2018, include:

Anna Karapetyan: A first generation college and law student, Karapetyan is pursuing real estate law at Gould. She is managing editor of the Southern California Review of Law and Social Justice and is a supervising clinical intern at the USC Intellectual Property and Technology Law Clinic. A Glendale native, Karapetyan earned her bachelor’s degree from USC in psychology with a minor in business.

Edward Ji: Also a first generation college and law student, Ji is earning his dual juris doctor degree at USC Gould School of Law and his MRED at USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. Formerly, Ji was a senior analyst in commercial lending at JPMorgan Chase & Co. A Los Angeles native, he earned his bachelor’s degree from USC Marshall School of Business with concentrations in real estate development and finance.
