Top-ranked hospital in California

U.S News & World Report released its annual ranking of hospitals in the country, placing three Los Angeles hospitals within the top 20 nationwide. Nearly 5,000 hospitals across the country are rated on 16 specialties and 9 procedures and conditions. UCLA Medical Center ranked the highest in California at No. 6 in the country, followed by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at No. 8, and Keck Hospital of USC at No. 16. The hospitals within the top 20 in the country were placed on the U.S. News 2019- 20 Best Hospitals Honor Roll.
“The UCLA Center for Human Nutrition features one of the most thorough weight management programs in the country,” says US News. “The Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center features a Level 1 trauma center for children and adults. The BirthPlace, located at both the Santa Monica and Westwood campuses, has delivery suites and postpartum rooms designed to feel like home. For patients later in life, the Geriatrics Special Care unit at Santa Monica Hospital offers the UCLA Companion Care Program, which provides volunteers to older patients. These specially trained volunteers spend time with patients, playing games, reading and accompanying patients on walks with a nurse’s supervision.”
According to U.S. News, “We analyze data from nearly 5,000 medical centers and survey responses from more than 30,000 physicians to rank hospitals in 16 adult specialties including cancer, diabetes, rheumatology and more. Survival rates, patient safety, specialized staff and hospital reputation were among the factors weighed.”
Nationally 165 hospitals ranked in at least one of the specialty areas. U.S. News continued, “The Honor Roll recognizes 20 hospitals for their exceptional care for complex cases across these specialties, as well as recognizes hospitals by state, metro and regional areas for their work in nine more widely performed procedures and conditions.”
