Construction Ramps Up on 17-Story UCLA Housing Project

Over 1,000 beds slated fot 10995 LeConte Apartments

By Sam Catanzaro

Work has ramped up on the construction of a massive UCLA student housing project, just one of a handful of developments underway that will collectively provide over 5,000 beds for undergraduate and graduate students.

The project, named 10995 LeConte Apartments, is now going verticle with construction at the site of a seismically deficient office building that used to home to UCLA Extension.

According to UCLA, the 17-story building will contain undergraduate apartments and student commons space checking in at 301,900 square-feet, containing 1,159 beds and featuring a “Bridge Zone” connecting the main campus to the Southwest campus. The project, which is slated for completion in mid-2021, is adjacent to the Westwood Village commercial area and other UCLA housing. In addition, there is a planned Metro Subway stop within 1/2 mile at the future Purple Line Extension Westwood station.

This 17-story building is just one of many UCLA housing complexes underway. Across the street at 885 Levering Avenue, work all but complete for a 10-story development named Levering Place containing 216 student beds in 42 apartments.

At 900 Weyburn Place, UCLA’s Warren Hall and the Hillblom Center have been demolished and excavation has begun for the Southwest Campus Apartments, three buildings between eight and ten stories in height with 1,958 beds for upper-division undergraduate students and 321 beds for graduate students. Completion is expected in 2022.

On the northwest corner of UCLA, a project known as the Lot 15 Apartments is also in the works. Two tower cranes are on-site for construction, which will feature two of eight-story buildings offering 1,781 beds for first-and second-year undergraduates. Completion is expected in 2021.
