A Westwood bagel shop was mentioned in a recent New York Times article that makes the case California has the best bagels in the world.
“West Coast bakers are driving a great bagel boom, producing some of the most delicious versions around and finding ways to expand during the pandemic,” reads the the subheading of the story, titled The Best Bagels Are in California (Sorry, New York).
Among the bagel shops highlighted in the article is Bueller’s Bagels (10840 W Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90064), serving up what the author Tejal Rao (a former NY resident) describes as “puffy beauties”.
Other Los Angeles bagel places highlighted in the article include Gjusta in Venice, Pop Bagels in Culver City and Brentwood and Courage Bagels on Virgil Avenue.
“Water has long been part of New York’s bagel mythology. The city’s tap water is particularly low in magnesium and calcium, which makes it “soft,” in water speak. But bakers can adjust their dough for a boil in soft or hard water to achieve the desired effect,” Rao writes.
