Rebar at high-rise construction site becomes electrically energized Thursday

One person died after being electrocuted at a Sawtelle construction site Thursday.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAPD), the incident was reported on July 15 at 12:08 p.m. at 12100 Olympic Boulevard.
“Thirty firefighters responded to a high-rise under construction (only three floors built so far), where rebar became electrically energized, injuring three workers, and igniting the structure. Two of the workers self-evacuated prior to firefighter arrival and a third, sadly, perished,” the LAFD said.
The incident happened at the work site for the West End development underway.
According to a department spokesperson, firefighters extinguished the fire in 31 minutes.
Two patients were transported to a local hospital. The cause is under investigation.
No further information has been released in connection to this incident.
