By John McDonald/UCLA Newsroom

The Department of Education at the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies ranks first among graduate education programs at public colleges and universities in the United States, according to the U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools rankings released March 29, 2022. The Department is the third-ranked graduate education program among all colleges and universities in the nation.

“Our now consistent ranking as the top public school of education reflects the hard work, dedication, and brilliance of our outstanding faculty, students, staff, and alumni. This recognition underscores the value of our work in advancing educational scholarship and practice that is grounded in an ethic of care and focused on creating educational opportunity for all citizens, locally and globally,” said Christina Christie, Wasserman Dean of the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies. “We believe education is the most powerful vehicle for social transformation and greatly appreciate being noted by U.S. News and World Report for our efforts to promote a more just and equitable society.”

The UCLA Department of Education is engaged in the preparation of students, scholars and leaders to play transformative roles in education in ways that advance opportunities for learning for all.  With a focus on urban schooling, the research, practice and scholarship of the UCLA Department of Education is intently focused on issues of race, equity, access and quality and the implications for K-12 and higher education. The Department attracts a diverse range of students, staff and faculty who care deeply about improving the quality of education in their communities and across the globe.

The Department’s graduate programs engage a diverse and talented pool of students in learning, research and development as new leaders in academic scholarship. In efforts ranging from assessment to urban schools, faculty, staff  and students are conducting meaningful research and developing innovative practices addressing critical issues in education.  Programs also prepare and support teachers and school leaders to do groundbreaking work in urban schools, and undergraduate students pursue a recently added major in Education and Social Transformation.  From the study of early child development to the administration of higher education, the Department is working to further understanding of the challenges facing education and dedicated to efforts that inform research and practice to advance learning, equity and opportunity.
