Actor Zachary Quinto to Host Special Event Honoring Leonard Nimoy
By Dolores Quintana
UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance (CAP UCLA) is set to inaugurate its 2023-24 season at The UCLA Nimoy Theater, formerly known as The Crest Theatre, an iconic Westwood venue that has undergone extensive renovation, transforming it into a versatile 300-seat off-campus performing arts space.
In a special event paying tribute to Leonard Nimoy, the venue’s namesake, actor and producer Zachary Quinto, renowned for his portrayal of Spock in the “Star Trek” reboot films, including “Star Trek” (2009), “Star Trek Into Darkness” (2013), and “Star Trek Beyond” (2016), will serve as the host.
Kicking off the CAP UCLA season at The Nimoy is Grammy Award-winning poet, spoken word artist, and songwriter J. Ivy, renowned for his unique style of performance poetry. J. Ivy will share the stage with singer Tarrey Torrae and local musicians as part of the inaugural installment of “Poetry Uncut,” a four-part series of thoughtfully curated poetry evenings co-hosted by J. Ivy and featuring special guest artists (scheduled for February 3 & 17). The series will culminate in a final poetry jam on April 6.
