DeliverZero introduces reusable packaging in the Greater Los Angeles area
By Dolores Quintana
DoorDash and DeliverZero have expanded their partnership to introduce reusable packaging options for restaurants in the Greater Los Angeles area, marking the first California city where DoorDash collaborates with DeliverZero on this initiative. The move is in response to growing consumer concerns about plastic and packaging waste, with 84% of U.S. shoppers expressing worry about these issues.
Starting immediately, customers in the Los Angeles area can choose reusable packaging when placing delivery orders through the DoorDash app, with a small fee of $.99 for the eco-friendly option. DeliverZero will supply partnering restaurants with reusable containers, collect used containers from consumers, sanitize them, and then redistribute them to participating establishments.
Gregory Owens, owner of Hijo De Su Madre in Westwood, is one of the first restaurant owners in the greater LA Area to offer their customers the option of reusable packaging. Farsi Cafe in Westwood, the Lazy Daisy Cafe‘s Beverly Hills location, and Ocean Sushi in West Hollywood have joined Doordash’s reusable container drive. With diners opting to eat in v. eat out, Deliver Zero is a great option to help reduce plastic and waste.
Lauren Sweeney, Founder and CEO of DeliverZero, sees this partnership as a step towards a more sustainable future, addressing environmental challenges associated with single-use packaging. DoorDash’s commitment to sustainability is evident through this collaboration, providing merchants with more environmentally friendly choices.
For every 1 million DeliverZero containers used, more than 25 tons of single-use plastic and compostable packaging waste will be diverted from landfills. Beyond its environmental impact, reusable packaging is more cost-effective, potentially saving restaurant owners over 85% on packaging costs compared to recyclable, compostable, or plastic alternatives.
Sarah Simon, DoorDash Public Engagement, emphasizes that the partnership with DeliverZero aligns with DoorDash’s commitment to providing sustainable options. Not only does this initiative benefit the environment, but it also offers advantages for merchants in terms of cost-effectiveness.
Adam Moon, Owner of Lazy Daisy, appreciates the simplicity of integrating eco-friendly practices into his business through the DoorDash and DeliverZero collaboration, making sustainable takeout containers more accessible.
