Elderly Victim Attacked with Deadly Weapon; Hate Crime Charges Filed

Beverly Hills Police officers responded to a reported assault with a deadly weapon in the vicinity of North Rexford Drive and North Santa Monica Blvd on Saturday, December 9, 2023, around 9:03 a.m. Patrol Officers acted promptly, discovering an elderly victim who had suffered a head laceration from a belt strike.
The victim, accompanied by their spouse, had no prior relationship with the suspect. The suspect, during the commission of the crime, directed antisemitic statements towards the victim. The Beverly Hills Fire Department provided on-scene treatment, and the victim did not require further medical attention.
Prior to police arrival, the suspect fled the scene. Following a search by Beverly Hills Police Department personnel, an individual matching the suspect description was observed fleeing by a BHPD Senior Forensic Specialist. Utilizing this information, police officers quickly apprehended, detained, and identified the suspect.
Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark Stainbrook stated, “Our officers quickly apprehended the suspect, and he is in custody. This despicable act of hate against a member of our community will not be tolerated.
The suspect is Jarris Jay Silagi, a 44-year-old male from Los Angeles, CA. Silagi faces charges including Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Attempted Robbery, Hate Crime, and Elder Abuse.
Silagi is held on $100,000.00 bail at the Los Angeles County Jail, with a court date scheduled for 12/12/23 at the Los Angeles Airport Court. The Beverly Hills Police Department Detective Bureau is conducting an ongoing investigation.
