Former Property of Comedy Legend Gene Wilder and Elon Musk in Bel-Air Listed for $12.95 Million

Historic Property Overlooking Bel-Air Country Club Hits Market Amid Foreclosure Process

A historic Bel-Air home, once owned by Hollywood legend Gene Wilder and later by tech billionaire Elon Musk, is now on the market for $12.95 million. Drew Meyers of Westside Estate Agency listed the property on Tuesday, as reported by Mansion Global. It overlooks the Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles.

Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk bought the property for $6.75 million in 2013, adding it to his real estate portfolio in Los Angeles. However, in 2020, Musk announced via Twitter that he intended to sell all his physical possessions, including his properties. He specified that the Bel-Air home should not be demolished or lose its character. Later that year, he sold the house to Wilder’s nephew, filmmaker Jordan Walker-Pearlman, and his wife, Elizabeth Hunter, for $7 million.

According to the listing, the white-shingle house was designed by architect Robert Byrd in 1951 and is described as a “piece of Hollywood history. ” Wilder, best known for his role as Willy Wonka in the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, purchased the home in 1976 for approximately $300,000 and sold it in 2007 for just over $2.7 million, according to public records.

Musk lent Pearlman and Hunter $6.7 million through an LLC to facilitate the purchase. However, the couple could not keep up financially with the loan, leading to a notice of default in July, the first legal notice of foreclosure.

None of the parties has chosen to comment on the situation except that Walker-Pearlman told The Wall Street Journal that he and his wife would cooperate with Musk and are “at peace” with the foreclosure process.

Meyers noted that the seller hopes the home will remain true to its original design. “It’s the last of the Mohicans,” Meyers said, emphasizing the property’s unique character. “Properties like this just don’t come up; it has an unbelievable vibe.”

The house spans over 2,700 square feet and sits on nearly an acre adjacent to the golf course. It features original wood-beamed ceilings, cozy fireplaces, and an open floor plan. The home’s centerpiece is a circular bar area, complemented by a gourmet kitchen, four bedrooms, and expansive views. It has extensive gardens and a kidney-shaped pool and is burnished by the legend of the iconic actor and former owner.
