Joan Hyler is the founder of Hyler Management and a former senior vice president of William Morris Agency. In August, she was hit by a car in Malibu while crossing Pacific Coast Highway. On her way to a party at a friend’s house, she was discovered clutching the friend’s address.
Her family and her friend were notified of the accident and Hyler was taken to the UCLA Medical Center, where she remained in critical condition for several days before beginning to show signs of improvement.
Hyler’s injuries, according to the Jewish Journal, required that she be on a ventilator after suffering collapsed lungs; she sustained multiple broken bones throughout her body, bleeding in her head and stomach and a vertebral collar was needed to support her neck and head. Her ankle break required surgery but a broken pelvis and clavicle did not. She was recovering from the hematoma next to the brain. The fluid in her lungs and abdomen was successfully drained.
During the process of her recovery, Hyler was given 40 units of blood.
Endeavor Talent Agency hosted a blood drive for the UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center to replenish the blood bank supply. Former clients of Hyler include Madonna and Andy Warhol. Clients at her current agency include Diane Lane and Portia de Rossi.
