On January 12, 2011, a year to the day since Haiti was devastated by an earthquake an effort to help refugees everywhere was launched amongst the glamorous denizens of Beverly Hills at the magnificent Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills.
“We brought the United Nations Refugee Agency to Los Angeles for the first time to launch Ludus Athletics because L.A. is more socially concerned and athletic, and we wanted to raise awareness for the ongoing plight of Pakistan flood victims, particularly Afghans,” said Hamed Wardak, CEO Ludus Athletics and one of the driving forces of the event.
Now, thanks to Mike McTernan, Project Manager for UNHCR’s Face to Face Program, they’re here to stay setting up offices in Koreatown.
The Ludus fashions featured at the Montage event showcased men’s and women’s graphic t-shirts representing five themes: Greco/Roman, Latin/Mayan, Asian/Buddhist, Arabeque and Angelique which were chosen because of the symbolism within each culture and design representing the evolution of mind, body and spirit. The shirts, made from eco-friendly and frankly luxurious organic cotton will be manufactured in LA along with the rest of the collection which will expand shortly.
