Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Patrol Boat “Edgington” responded to an assistance call on Tuesday night by LAPD Helicopter #18 at 6 pm.
LAPD relayed to the boat crew that a sailing vessel had gone aground off the Venice breakwater with persons in the water.
Upon their arrival with Los Angeles County Baywatch, Deputies Ron Nohles and Sean Stamper discovered a 33’ sailboat on the beach.
The four occupants of the sailboat were located and transported to Marina del Rey Station, where they were examined by Los Angeles County Fire Engine 110 and released with no injuries.
The Captain of the sailboat stated that while motoring his vessel close to shore he had suffered a mechanical failure and was unable to correct it prior to grounding his boat. After towing the sailboat free from the beach, it was found to be seaworthy and released to the owner.
