A 70-foot powerboat that was anchored offshore just south of Marina del Rey harbor ran aground early Thursday morning, according to the Marina Del Rey Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The Sheriff’s Department said the captain of the vessel awoke to his boat dragging anchor at approximately 4:30 am.
The captain’s attempts to start the vessels engines were unsuccessful.
Before responding rescue units could arrive, his vessel went aground in heavy seas. The three occupants of the powerboat, along with three dogs, were assisted by responding Marina del Rey Sheriff’s rescue boat deputies and Los Angeles County Lifeguards.
No injuries were reported and all were transported to Marina del Rey Station where they are being assisted by the Red Cross.
Options are being considered for the removal of the vessel.
