Five candidates seeking to succeed retiring Rep. Henry Waxman are scheduled to participate in a forum organized by several Jewish organizations. The forum is tonight (April 28) in Los Angeles.

Sen. Ted Lieu and fellow Democrats Wendy Greuel, a former Los Angeles controller, Matt Miller, a public radio host,  prosecutor Elan Carr, a Republican, and independent Marianne Williamson will speak and answer questions beginning at 7 p.m. at the headquarters of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, 6505 Wilshire Boulevard.

Former Commerce Secretary Mickey Kantor endorsed Greuel on April 28.

“I’ve seen Wendy Greuel firsthand, whether it was at HUD during the Clinton administration or here in Los Angeles as a city leader. She knows how to get things done,” Kantor said. “Wendy Greuel will deliver for us in Congress because she has been doing that her entire life.”

Another candidate in the field of 18, author and entrepreneur Marianne Williamson, is scheduled to speak at noon today at the Beverly Hills Public Library, 444 N. Rexford Drive, elaborating on “the need to get money out of politics to end the citizen lockout in American politics” and “about her campaign for a politics of conscience,” an aide said.

Williamson, who will not have a party preference listed beside her name on the June 3 primary ballot, was endorsed Sunday by Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla).

“Marianne Williamson has taught us that ‘playing small doesn’t serve the world,’” Grayson said. “Every member of Congress needs to hear those words. We all need to ‘play big’ and create a world where each of us is free to – in Marianne Williamson’s words – ‘let our own light shine.’

“In a nation where Marianne Williamson helps to make the laws, our differences will no longer divide us, they will be cultivated and nurtured and cherished, so that every one of us can be all that he or she can be.”
