Culver City police warned people on June 18 against being taken in by a telephone-based scam in which someone claiming to be with the department says a family member is in jail and needs bail money.
“These calls are not legitimate and are not from the Culver City Police Dept. representatives. We recommend never wiring money to any source unless you are absolutely sure it is legitimate,” police said in a prepared statement.
Police said they received several such reports over the past few months, but did not say if anyone lost money.
Anyone asking about arrests in Culver City should call (310) 253-6205.
