A trio of sequels grabbed the top three spots at the box office over the weekend, with the newest of the bunch landing on top, according to final figures released today.
The comedy “Think Like a Man Too” debuted in first place at North American theaters with $29.2 million, according to box-office tracker Rentrak.
Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s buddy-cop comedy “22 Jump Street” placed second with $27.5 million, while the animated “How to Train Your Dragon 2” took third with $24.7 million.
The parade of sequels spoiled the debut of director Clint Eastwood’s big-screen take on the hit musical “Jersey Boys,” which opened in fourth place with $13.3 million. Disney’s “Maleficient” took fifth with $12.9 million.
Rounding out the top 10 movies of the weekend were “Edge Of Tomorrow” ($9.8 million); “The Fault in Our Stars” ($8.6 million); “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” ($6.1 million); “Godzilla” ($1.9 million); and “Chef” ($1.7 million).
