School District Says Potential Expulsion for Involved Students
An investigation is underway after authorities discovered that students at a Beverly Hills middle school employed artificial intelligence to create and share nude AI-generated images of their classmates, as reported by ABC 7 News.
The Beverly Hills Unified School District has labeled the incident as a “shocking misuse” of technology. Students found engaging in such behavior at Beverly Vista Middle School may potentially face expulsion and other repercussions, according to the district.
The Beverly Hills Police Department is actively involved in the investigation.
School officials disclosed last week that they were made aware of the images, wherein the faces of students from the school were overlaid onto nude bodies generated by artificial intelligence. The ongoing investigation aims to determine the extent of student involvement and the number of individuals affected.
BHUSD Superintendent Michael Bregy stressed the importance of parents closely monitoring their children’s behavior in response to this incident. He also highlighted the legislative lag in keeping pace with the rapid advancements in technology.
“We strongly urge parents to remain engaged, scrutinize phones, and stay well-informed about what is happening,” Bregy commented, as quoted by ABC 7 News. “Ultimately, it boils down to discerning the difference between right and wrong.”
