No “T†for Santa Monica
Measure “T†was a ballot initiative on Santa Monica’s November 4 ballot. Its goal was to curb commercial development in the city in the hopes that by doing so, the logjam of Santa Monica traffic might abate, or at the very least remain constant.
The Residents’ Initiative to Fight Traffic (RIFT), as Measure T was also known, failed fifty-six percent to forty-four percent. While proponents discussed the havoc associated with Westside traffic, opponents feared that the cap in development would only add to the city’s financial woes.
