Authorities today identified a 20-year-old man who drowned while cave-diving in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Rescue crews responded about 2:10 p.m. Thursday to a call of two people in distress in the water off the 5300 block of Palos Verdes Drive, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
Two swimmers were located, pulled aboard a county fire department boat and taken to Los Angeles Fire Department Station 110 at 2945 Miner St., LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.
Ricardo Compean of Carson was pronounced dead at the fire station, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.
Compean apparently had been submerged for about 10 minutes. The other swimmer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
