The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose today for the eighth consecutive day, increasing four-tenths of a cent to $4.178, its highest amount since May 19.
The average price has risen 4.4 cents over the past eight days, including one-tenth of a cent on Tuesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 3.5 cents more than one week ago, 2.1 cents higher than one month ago and 12.2 cents greater than one year ago.
The Orange County average price rose today for the 11th time in 12 days, increasing one-tenth of a cent to $4.163, its highest amount since May 19.
The Orange County average price has increased 5.3 cents over the past 12 days, including three-tenths of a cent on Tuesday. It is 3.3 cents more than one week ago, 2 cents higher than one month ago and 12.1 cents greater than one year ago.
The rising pump prices stem from a sharp increase in wholesale prices caused by unplanned outages at two Los Angeles County refineries. The outages have disrupted Southern California gasoline production, reducing the supply, Marie Montgomery of the Automobile Club of Southern California told City News Service.
