Beverly Hills Special Election Results Certified for Proposed Hotel Ordinances

Measure B and Measure C Results to be Presented at City Council Meeting on June 6

The City of Beverly Hills held a special election on Tuesday, May 23, on two proposed ordinances. Measure B asked voters if Ordinance No. 22-0-2866 should adopt by the City Council and enact zone changes and corresponding map amendments to permit the Cheval Blanc Hotel, which will contain up to 115 rooms, a 500-member private club, and restaurant and retail uses on an approximately 1.28-acre site in the northern portion of the business triangle, be adopted?

Measure C asked voters if Ordinance No. 22-0-2867 should be adopted by the Beverly Hills City Council approving a development agreement that vests development rights for the Cheval Blanc Hotel in exchange for public benefits.

The certification of results for this special election will be presented at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, but Dean C. Logan, the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC), has officially certified the election results for the City of Beverly Hills Special Municipal Election held on May 23, 2023. A total of 7,128 ballots were processed and counted, with a voter turnout of 32.17% among eligible voters in the city. Detailed election results can be accessed on the official website, LAVOTE.GOV.

The final results of the election are as follows:

7,128 Beverly Hills residents voted, a mere 32.17% of eligible voters.
6,612 of those votes were votes by mail ballots
516 of those votes were vote-center ballots

For Measure B, the votes were
Yes: 3.511  49.44%
No:  3,591  50.56%

For Measure B, the votes were
Yes: 3,513  49.43%
No:  3.594  50.57%

According to Women’s Wear Daily, LVMH released a press statement that acknowledged that voters were not going to approve the measures or the proposed Cheval Blanc Hotel on Rodeo Drive. An LVMH spokesperson, Jessica Miller, said, “Although some votes remain counted, it now appears that Measures B and C have fallen short by a narrow margin, overturning the results of a comprehensive, years-long review and approval process. We are proud to have worked with so many residents, civic leaders and business owners who supported this once-in-a-generation investment that would have delivered hundreds of millions of dollars in city funding and a beautiful gateway project for the Golden Triangle. If the final vote count confirms the voters’ rejection of our project, we will respect the outcome and will not bring the hotel project back in any form.” on May 26, 2023.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has also scheduled the declaration of the election’s official conclusion for Tuesday, June 6.
