Beverly Hills traffic and parking commissioners and two City Council members will meet Thursday to discuss safety improvements in Trousdale Estates, where two Los Angeles police officers were fatally injured recently in traffic crashes on steep Loma Vista Drive.
Off-duty LAPD Detective Ernest Allen Sr., 52, was pronounced dead after the pickup truck he was driving collided with a cement mixer Friday. That crash happened near where on-duty LAPD Officer Nicolas Lee, 40, was fatally injured in a crash with a dump truck on March 7.
On May 7, the city commissioned a traffic study from Fehr & Peers. The head of the transportation consulting firm will make recommendations for improvements by the end of May, according to Beverly Hills city spokeswoman Therese Klosterman.
The study is focused on heavy commercial traffic, such as dump trucks and concrete mixers.
After Friday’s crash, the city suspended heavy vehicle traffic in the area, and officers are stationed at both ends of Loma Vista Drive to stop big rigs, Klosterman said.
A runaway truck ramp is located near the bottom of Loma Vista Drive and the road is posted with signs that warn about the steep grade.
