The Board of Supervisors recognized on Tuesday the 240th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Supervisor Sheila Kuehl presented a scroll to Marine Staff Sgt. Michael Hjelmstad during the board’s meeting in downtown Los Angeles.
“The United States Marine Corps has served in nearly every conflict in United States history since February of 1776,” Kuehl said. “Today, our Marines are found throughout the world in peacetime and in war, where they are proudly known and cherished as America’s 9-1-1,” Kuehl said.
The board declared Nov. 8-14 as United States Marine Corps Week.
“All of our residents are urged to give their thanks and respect to the United States Marine Corps for its selfless and courageous service to our country,” Kuehl said.
