Another hot prowl burglary occurs in Westwood last week

Police are searching for a burglar who was spotted inside a Westwood apartment wearing a backpack stolen from a resident.
According to the UCLA Police Department (UCLA PD), on April 6 around 10 p.m. the suspect was seen prowling inside a residence on Gayley Avenue wearing a backpack belonging to a resident.
“When confronted, the suspect dropped the backpack and quickly left the area,” UCLA PD said.
The suspect is described by police as a Black man, around 50 years old, 5’10”, 140lbs, wearing a dark jacket, yellow shirt, black pants, black boots, and orange handkerchief.
The victim is a UCLA student.
According to police, The residence was occupied at the time of the burglary (i.e. “hot prowl” burglary), the latest such incident to take place in the area. On March 21 around 2 a.m. the suspect was seen prowling inside a residence on the 500 block of Landfaire Avenue. When confronted, the suspect quickly left the area. Around $800 was reported missing by the victim, who was in the apartment at the time of the crime.
In addition, on March 19 around 8:30 a.m. another victim reported an unknown suspect who attempted to enter his apartment on the 3100 block of Sepulveda. The victim, who was in the apartment at the time, says the suspect was unable to enter due to the unit’s security latch. The victim in this incident is also a UCLA student.
