Second Break-In Hits High-End Store in Fairfax District This Year
The Fairfax District was the site of a robbery of a high-end optical shop that was targeted by burglars early Sunday, as reported by ABC Eyewitness News. In a matter of minutes, thieves made off with an estimated $150,000 worth of luxury glasses.
According to surveillance footage, the group used a pickup truck to ram into the storefront of Hall of Frames, creating an opening large enough for four suspects to crawl through. Once inside, they used crowbars to shatter display cases and swiftly grabbed approximately 200 pairs of designer eyewear.
Simon Babouchian, store manager at Hall of Frames, said the entire break-in took less than two minutes. The shop, which boasts celebrity clientele including Kim Kardashian and Quavo, carries exclusive brands like Cartier and Loewe.
“This is our second break-in since February,” Babouchian said. “The first one was shocking. The second time, it just felt unreal, like, ‘Is this really happening again?’”
The store had been recovering from the previous smash-and-grab robbery, which occurred over Super Bowl weekend when it was hit again.
Babouchian said while some of the stolen pieces can be reordered, others were rare or one-of-a-kind items that may never be replaced. He also noted that a few of the stolen glasses have already appeared for resale on platforms like OfferUp, prompting concerns about the circulation of stolen goods online.
