Century City might as well be nicknamed Award City as yet another gala honoring an industry’s most successful comes to the Los Angeles enclave. Come May 9, the Southern California Chapter of the International Interior Design Assoc. (IIDA) will be hosting the 2014 Calibre Awards at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel on May 9.

The Calibre Awards recognizes several project teams who have excelled bringing interior design concepts to life.

Specifically, the IIDA states next month’s award event honors “the true meaning of collaboration for projects that exhibit a high level of teamwork and stunning design.”

Winners of top interior design projects will be announced during the awards gala, which is now in its 26th iteration.

The IIDA’s Southern California already announced winners in the student competition, according to news reports. Specifically, four interior design students from Cal State Long Beach reportedly claimed a combined $15,000 in scholarship money. They beat out students from The Art Institute of California, Cal State Northridge, and Woodbury University in submitting winning interior design projects at various locations across the State.

On the professional level, 55 teams were nominated for their respective workplace designs in seven categories.

Those categories were: health and wellness; leisure and entertainment; public facilities and education; retail; workplace small; workplace medium; and, workplace large.

Some familiar workplaces and destinations on the nominees list include Annenberg Skylight Studio, Cartoon Network, CBRE Global Corporate Headquarters, Cedars Sinai Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion, Cornerstone OnDemand, Demand Media, DIRECTV, Fox Head Global Headquarters, Hulu Headquarters, iHeartRADIO Theater LA, Panavision, TMZ, Volcano Corp.’s Corporate Office, Warner Chappell Music, Westgate Spa and Pool Terrace, and Whole Foods Market’s Southern Pacific Regional Office.

For the complete list of nominated teams, please visit the IIDA webpage about the Calibre Awards.

Pam Light, senior vice president with HOK and an award-winning interior designer, is the gala’s Circle of Excellence honoree.

The award gala will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 9.
