Check Out Local Library Events and Upcoming Programs Going Into June

Brentwood, Palisades, and West Los Angeles Libaries Schedules Included

As the school year draws to a close, the Brentwood Library is gearing up for a summer packed with exciting events and activities for all ages. With June just around the corner, the library is abuzz with plans to keep the community engaged and entertained.

Among the highlights of the upcoming month is the LA Zoo Goes to the Library program, which will delve into the world of pollinators on June 14th at 12pm. Although live animals won’t be present at this event, attendees can expect an informative and engaging session.

The library has a week of activities planned for the end of May. In observance of Memorial Day, the library will be closed on Monday, May 27th. However, on Tuesday, May 28th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., STAR Reader Alicia will be on hand to engage young readers.

Wednesday, May 29th offers multiple opportunities for both toddlers and older readers, with Toddler/Preschool Storytime at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., as well as STAR Reader Bonnie from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On Thursday, May 30th, children can participate in Brick-Building Playtime from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., followed by STAR Reader Camille from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Palisades Library will host a drop-in hands-only CPR training session on May 29th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., provided by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. This training, while not certified, offers valuable life-saving skills and requires no prior documents or registration.

Looking ahead, the library has a diverse array of programs planned for the coming weeks. Senior Writing Group sessions will continue on May 30th at 1:00 p.m., offering seniors an opportunity to connect with fellow writers in the community.

Furthermore, laughter yoga enthusiasts can join in on the fun on Friday, May 31st at 2:00 p.m., experiencing laughter as a physical exercise in a comfortable and supportive environment.

For film enthusiasts, the library’s pop-up Noir Film Festival will screen “Twilight” (1998) on Saturday, June 1st at 2:00 p.m., introduced by Raymond Parker.

And for teens, the library offers a Monthly Makerspace session on May 28th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., providing opportunities to learn various skills including 3-D printing and sewing. The Teen Council also meets every Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., offering valuable leadership and civic engagement opportunities.

As the West Los Angeles Regional Branch Library prepares for the summer season, it is delighted to announce a diverse array of upcoming events catering to readers of all ages.

Every Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m., children are invited to attend storytime sessions, where they can immerse themselves in captivating tales and interactive activities. For toddlers aged 18 months to 3 years old, the Toddler Storytime features engaging stories, songs, and fingerplays.

Midday on Wednesdays, from noon to 2:00 p.m., young readers can participate in STAR Stories With Pam, a unique opportunity to share the joy of storytelling and reading with the library’s STAR volunteer, Pam. Attendance at this event rewards children with the chance to take home a special surprise after attending three times.

On May 29, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., a session titled “What’s Free at the Library?” will offer valuable insights into accessing a plethora of digital resources including e-books, audiobooks, magazines, movies, and renowned publications such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post. Attendees will also learn how to access Consumer Reports, expanding their access to valuable information and entertainment.

Thursday afternoons at 4:15 p.m. are dedicated to Thursday Storytime, a delightful experience for readers of all ages featuring stories, fingerplays, and songs.

Additionally, the library hosts the Mystery Book Club on the first Sunday of each month from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mystery enthusiasts are invited to join discussions on a variety of mystery, thriller, or suspense books selected by the group. For details on current titles and to participate, interested individuals are encouraged to contact the library here.
