Children March for Rights

By Michael Ray

The Children’s March for Humanity hosted an all-inclusive Saturday morning march down Main Street, Santa Monica, June 17, which concluded on the front steps of Santa Monica City Hall. The day’s events included poster making, a kids’ corner, speakers, performers, and a raffle. Booths were set up near and around the steps with information for attendees about homeopathic treatments, supplemental material from the march’s speakers, as well as hula hoops for the children to play.

Co-Organizer of the march Wendy Silvers emceed the event and introduced presenters an eclectic array of activists, authors, and homeopathic practitioners.

As Emcee, Silvers spoke about the power of the “masculine” and the “feminine” and the importance of parents supporting one another’s choices. She continued by thanking all the “mamas” and the “papas” for attending the Children’s March for Humanity. Co-organizer Dayana Lopez, raised the question “what is causing the rise in disease within the United States?” She then stated, that “just because something is common, doesn’t mean that it is normal.”

Over the course of the afternoon, Emmy Award winning artist Kiko J. Ellsworth; legal expert and self-proclaimed “freedom defender” Travis Middleton; author Brittney Kara; holistic nutritionist Michele Rooney; physical therapist Shanna Cartmell; wellness coach Eileen Kurlander, and musician Karen Seva spoke about a range of issues affecting today’s youth and parents. From vaccinations, to genetically modified foods and prescription medication, the emphasis was on self-empowerment through education and informed decisions.

While some families listened to the presentations near the stage; in the kid’s corner, sign making was ongoing as groups of children played with hula hoops.

The main march took place in Washington DC; locally, Santa Monica’s satellite march was co-organized by Lopez and Silvers, both mothers concerned about the health and wellness of their children. Attendees came from as far as Pismo Beach and Norco, California.
