The City of Malibu is hosting a two-day Joint City Council / Planning Commission public tour and workshop as part of the development of the proposed Dark Sky Ordinance. The proposed ordinance aims to reduce light pollution to preserve enjoyment of the night time sky and the City’s rural environment, reduce impacts on wildlife and natural habitats, and promote the City’s goal of conserving energy and natural resources.
A draft ordinance will be released prior to the tour and workshop.
June 6, 2017 Tour
- Open to the public, all are welcome
- Starts at 8:00 PM at City Hall with an introductory briefing followed by a tour of lighting sites in the City at 9:45 PM
- Surveys will be provided to participants to evaluate each site.
- An itinerary will be released in advance. Participants are responsible for transportation
- Led by International Dark-Sky Association technical advisor and lighting engineers
June 7, 2017 Workshop
- Open to the public, all are welcome
- Starts at 6:30 PM at City Hall
- Topics include: tour experience, survey results, community concerns, draft ordinance, compliance, and enforcement
- Led by International Dark-Sky Association technical advisor and lighting engineers
