The City of Malibu will host a special screening of the powerful documentary “Water & Power: A California Heist,” on the evening of August 30 in City Hall’s Civic Theater. The film is a critically acclaimed documentary by Emmy Award-winning director Marina Zenovich, that tells the story of how a small group of water barons gained control of our state’s most precious resource.
“This educational and entertaining film underscores many of the important issues surrounding our water resources that California and Malibu confront every day,” said Mayor Skylar Peak. “I’d encourage everyone in Malibu to see this film so we can make informed decisions on our water future.”
Directed by Marina Zenovich (“Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired”) and executive produced by Academy Award-winner Alex Gibney, “Water & Power” takes viewers into the complicated questions of California’s water rights and the powerful interests that have long controlled them.
The screening will be co-hosted by Food & Water Watch, a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Food & Water Watch staff who will discuss the proposed new $25-$67 billion Sacramento-San Joaquin delta tunnel project and its potential effects on Southern California water supplies.
The free screening will start at 7:00 PM in the Civic Theater at Malibu City Hall. No reservations are necessary, and seats are open to the first 240 people to arrive.
