Los Angeles Clippers reserve forward Branden Dawson was arrested in Playa Vista Sunday on suspicion of felony spousal abuse and did not suit up for an afternoon game at Staples Center.

The 23-year-old rookie was arrested about 8:30 a.m., according to sheriff’s online jail records.

Dawson wasn’t on the bench when the Clippers tipped off against the Cleveland Cavaliers, because he was being held at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Station jail on $50,000 bail. He was released about 1:15 p.m.

Dawson sent out a tweet at 1:53 p.m. saying only, “Trust God.”

There was no immediate response to an email to the Clippers seeking comment.

Officers were called about 7:30 a.m. to a residence in the 6500 block of Crescent Park, where Dawson was taken into custody, according to Los Angeles police Officer Rosario Herrera.

The Clippers announced Saturday they had recalled Dawson from the NBA Development League’s Erie BayHawks

The 6-foot 6-inch, 225-pound Dawson has played in three games with the Clippers, most recently on Feb. 18, with two points and three rebounds in 13 minutes of action.

Dawson was inactive for today’s 114-90 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Dawson has been assigned to the NBA Development League four times.

The Clippers acquired Dawson last year in a draft-night trade with the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Pelicans selected Dawson with the 56th choice in the 2015 draft. Dawson played four years at Michigan State, finishing as the school’s career leader in blocked shots with 142.

Dawson is due to appear April 7 at the Airport Courthouse, according to the sheriff’s department.
